Touchscreen Solution for CNN Portugal first Election Coverage February 15, 2022

For CNN Portugal's first election coverage, wTVision developed a “magic wall” solution for the channel and its partner TVI. A web tool that guaranteed interactivity and data updated in real time.

For the first election night with CNN coverage in Portugal, wTVision was challenged to build a touchscreen solution from scratch that could present a new vision of the electoral act, the Portuguese way of voting and exponentially increase the interactivity of the long hours of broadcasting for both CNN and its partner, TVI.

With the “magic wall” solution presented, it was possible for journalists to control the broadcast and the data broadcasted to the public, using a touchscreen and official data updated in real time. Journalists were able to choose regions of the country, parties, comparisons with past elections, and even simulate the majority that would come to be drawn. In addition, a design tool allowed them to mark the regions of greatest interest, highlight data and candidates. The same “magic wall” also had an interactive parliament and a majority simulator, guaranteeing a unique analysis of the results.

The “magic wall” designed by wTVision is a web solution, developed by its specialists. In order for the information to be permanently updated, the web structure was integrated with the broadcast database, provided by wTVision elections solutions.

Our UX/UI design team also played a huge part in the project, adapting the look and feel provided by CNN and TVI to the web-based touchscreen interface.

A simple solution, with a secure system, which added unique perspectives, interactivity, and essential clarification on election night.

Our election solutions for real-time graphics and data were also used during the same electoral night for the Portuguese channels RTP and Porto Canal.
