Playout Automation
wTVision operates six of TV Globo’s channelsOctober 23, 2016

It was in 2005 that wTVision and TV Globo, the largest TV network in Brazil and one of the biggest in the world, started their successful partnership. Eleven years later there are already six TV Globo international channels operated by wTVision from its technical hub in Lisbon and broadcasted in three different continents: Europe, Africa and Asia. Last month, on the 1st of September, wTVision took over the distribution of Globo PTG, operating now all of TV Globo’s channels broadcasted outside the American continent, through ChannelMaker. ChannelMaker is a playout system created by wTVIsion to manage TV channels and ready to be fully customized and adapted to a channel’s specific requirements. Luís Barradas, wTVision coordinator for TV Globo’s operations in Lisbon, mentions “a normal and logical step and an easy integration”, taking into account that the other non-American channels were already operated by wTVision and that the content of the new channel is not very different from the rest. “We work very closely with our software developers and that’s one of the main advantages of our solutions: we can implement and optimize new features without much effort because the development team understands the operation process very well.” For each channel wTVision has two broadcasts (a main one and a backup) and, therefore, two playouts and a changeover with the capacity to automatically change to the backup broadcast if it detects problems within the main one, assuring a flawless broadcast on all times (see scheme). All channels are produced internally in HD NTSC and converted, in real time, to the format agreed upon by TV Globo and the distribution operator, highlighting the flexibility and efficiency of wTVision’s solutions.
